Rick Yancey’s novel The 5th Wave opens with that quote from Stephen Hawking which, at this point, isn’t so much an insight as a cliché. If aliens ever visit us, I think the outcome would be much as when Christopher Columbus first landed in America, which didn’t turn out well for the Native Americans.”
